International symposium on Higher Education 2022: The future of the University: Challenges and Opportunities held at NSU

A two day-long International Symposium on Higher Education was held at the North South University on November 30 and December 01, 2022. The theme of the Symposium was “The Future of the University: Challenges and Opportunities”. Renowned international scholars from home and abroad participated in the symposium.

Prof. Ts. Dr. Murali Raman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Asia Pacific University of Technology and Innovation, Malaysia inaugurated the symposium as the Guest of Honor and Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir, Member of University Grants Commission of Bangladesh was present as the Chief Guest in the closing ceremony. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Atiqul Islam, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. M. Ismail Hossain of NSU and Prof. Dr. Md. Abul Kashem Mia, Vice-Chancellor (in-charge) of UIU also participated in the deliberation at the symposium.

Prof. Raman, in his inaugural speech, emphasized on how higher education should adapt to the changes going on worldwide since COVID-19 pandemic. He further highlighted the importance of collaborating, not competing, in the area of ranking, research, joint teaching and learning.

UGC member, Prof. Dr. Muhammed Alamgir expressed gratitude to the entire IQAC Team and NSU for inviting him to the symposium. He emphasized that in a developing country like Bangladesh, where resources are scarce, it is imperative that quality higher education should be provided. And to accomplish that, it is vital to collaborate and adapt to the changes. He further added that, UGC has formulated some measures to cater students with high quality education at the same time enhancing their academic pursuits.

Deans, Chairs, faculty members of NSU and IQAC Directors of several private universities were present in the symposium to discuss issues related to accreditation, ranking, quality assurance, curriculum development, research and society impact of education. There was a student session on the second day of the symposium in which a notable number of students participated and shared their views and opinions on student satisfaction level at NSU.

The symposium ended with a crest giving ceremony among Guests and speakers.
